Human Interaction With The Social World - 1810 Words

The social world refers to the self, other people and interactions with other people. (The Open University, 2016a) A large portion of psychological research questions the reasons people interact with their social world in the ways that they do, and seeks to better understand human relationships. To what extent does current research withing psychological disciplines succeed in explaining the phenomena and reasons for human interaction with the social world as it currently is? This assignment will explore current research and explore the relevance and validity when considering the question of human interaction with the self and others, ultimately concluding that current research is largely successful at assessing how people make sense†¦show more content†¦(Fullwood and Hamilton, 2016a) Further to this, Bothma et al. discuss that this effect occurs when a tutor marks a students paper- even academics aren t immune! This report also explores various measurements and prior aca demic study of this effect, and concludes that a wide amount of research on this topic stands up to criticism, and occurs even with a large sample size. It is therefore reasonable to assume that research considering this effect is robust, and serves as an example of a bias that affects a persons relationship with the world. Research surrounding social media has explored the ways in which people interact with their social world when the social world moves online. When considering the existence of the Halo effect, Fullwood and Hamilton, (2016a) also note that a person may not have to worry about being perceived as lesser due to their looks if they are able to hide the way they look. This could potentially be achieved by spending more time on an online platform as opposed to the outside world. (Aiken and Waller, 2000; Johnson et al., (2009) cited in Fullwood and Hamilton, (2016b) also point out another reason someone might want to hide behind a screen- in order to be able to bully, or be cruel, with the mask of anonymity.
